Homelab and Self-hosting
My work with Homelab and Self-hosting transcends technical enthusiasm; it is the laboratory where I develop expertise in systems administration and network architecture. Through self-hosting, I apply advanced Computer Science concepts to ensure data autonomy and high availability.
Hardware Architecture and Virtualization
The infrastructure is based on a robust virtualization environment:
- Main Node: Xeon 2680v4 with 64GB RAM and 2TB SSD.
- Secondary Node: Intel i5 Server, 32GB RAM, 3TB disk running Proxmox Backup Server (PBS).
- Backup Node: i3 with 2TB disk running Proxmox acting as standby hardware.
- Hypervisor: Operating with Proxmox VE for managing containers and virtual machines.
- Ecosystem: Sustains over 30 active services and applications.
Advanced Networks and Connectivity
The strategic differentiator of this laboratory is the deep implementation of network protocols:
- Dual-Stack with IPv6 Focus: Intensive use of native IPv6, integrated with my own ASN (AS209338).
- DNS Automation: Implementation of tools for automatic Reverse DNS (PTR) updates for all IPv6 devices.
- Retrocomputing Lab: Integration of legacy technology with 56k modems and a DSLAM concentrator, providing technical support to the TELESC and IRC.BENEDETTA projects.
Data Security and Resilience
Operational integrity is maintained by a rigorous 3-2-1 backup policy:
- Layer 1: Backup in PBS.
- Layer 2: Backup in external infrastructure (Remote PBS).
- Layer 3: Offline Backup.
